"The Cape Cod of the Midwest"

Door County is a peninsula stretching north between Green Bay and Lake Michigan, and has resisted the invasion of franchises. This weekend has something for everyone from the most diligent of hikers to those who like to browse through art galleries and antique shops. There are many places to walk, from isolated Rock Island, to beautiful Peninsula State Park on the Green Bay's shore of Green Bay, each with its own appeal.

We stay in Sister Bay, surrounded by trees and flowers, complete with indoor pool and whirlpool. You will feel like you are away from it all while being very close to the charm of downtown Sister Bay.

ITINERARY

Friday afternoon, go north to the charming downtown of Sister Bay.

Saturday catch the Ferry for Rock Island (via Washington Island). Rock Island has no vehicular traffic. It is a wonderful place, with Lake Michigan on all sides. There is an old boat house with a small museum. We journey back to our lodging and dinner. After dinner, we've been known to read a play and/or play games.

Sunday, we're off to Newport Beach State Park for a walk to Europe Lake. After lunch, we take in Cana Lighthouse and/or the Ridges. In the evening you have the option of going to one of the best fish boils on the peninsula.

Following breakfast Monday, we head to Peninsula State Park to hike and have lunch before heading for home.
